Research
My Process
My research included gazing meditation (Trataka), meditation journals and the physical reaction to gazing.

When entering the website the user may gaze at the painting for as long as they wish and disconnect from the noise of the outside world.

The site uses a webcam to follow the direction of the viewer's gaze.
When concentrating on a certain area in the painting, it grows or begins to dissolve.

Afterward, the viewer is left with just particles from the experience.

At the end, session notes are created to show the viewer a map of their gaze, at what point's they looked away from the painting, and a their notes regarding their feelings during the experience.

Goldfish,
Henri Matisse
A new way to experience Henri Matisse's painting using its meta data.
In my research I read that Henri Matisse became interested in goldfish when he visited Morocco. There, he saw the locals daydreaming for hours, gazing into goldfish bowls.
I created an experience of tranquillity for the viewer the same as Matisse did in his paintings.
